Both of these patents reflect the design experience and expertise of the ORION team. These patents and our other innovative designs can be adapted to almost any product, from a small printed circuit board to a 48" long keyboard. Please consider your projects and how we can help you meet your design requirements with a cost effective shielding laminate.
U.S. Patent 5,581,047
An ORION project for the design of shielding laminates in a video phone resulted in both patents. The major problem facing engineers was that the video screen electronics had to be completely enclosed by the shielding laminate with no seams that would allow radiation to enter or escape. ORION developed a design for cutting, scoring and forming a six- sided box that folds up from one single piece of shielding laminate material! This type of fold-up box is easily adapted to other projects, whatever the size, to completely shield the product.
U.S. Patent 5,581,049
The second patent derived from the video
phone project was for a method of cutting the laminate which allowed
the material to flow over printed circuit boards and components
of varying heights. This would normally be achieved by cutting
folds and tabs in the material, or taping a second piece of shielding
over the opening, which could still result in exposed seams. ORION's
design for this expanding joint provided the solution for
an economical and compact form-fitting shield.
